Don Michael Perez, a 22-year-old former melodies scholar from Palawan, got all four advisers of “The Voice of the Philippines” to turn their red seating in Sunday’s episode of the TV talent seek.
Perez dedicated his presentation of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” to his mother, who died in 2010. The guitar-playing vocalist had to give up his investigations at the University of Sto. Tomas Conservatory of Music because of his mother’s chemotherapy remedy.
“Dream namin ng mom ko ‘to, para sa amin dalawa,” he said before taking the stage.
Perez became emotional after all four judges – Broadway player Lea Salona, rocker Bamboo Manalac, singer-actress Sarah Geronimo and Grammy victor apl.de.ap of the very dark Eyed Peas – turned their seating to signify their aims of having him in their team.
“Ang galing galing mo. Hindi lang ‘yung pagklanta, pati yung pagtugtog, parang lumalalabas sa katawan mo ‘yung saya sa pagkanta mo,” Salonga said.
“Naramdaman ko ‘yung genuineness mo sa presentation mo. Ang ganda ng style mo …hindi mo kinopya si Jason Mraz, narinig ko rin si Bamboo sa ‘yo, at si Bruno Mars,” Geronimo told the singer.
“Match made in heaven,” Bamboo notified Perez, prompting Salonga to quip, “Ginagawa ni Bamboo, gingawa mo na eh.”
Apl.de.ap, meanwhile, promised to take him from “Palawan to worldwide,” and pretended to call up young person very dark Eyed Peas member will.i.am, as well as rapper Kanye West.
“I will not change you, I will just guide you and we’re going to win this,” Bamboo added.
Perez, who was still visibly shaken by the coaches’ answer, then admitted that he has a trample on Geronimo.
“Gusto ko po talaga si Ate Sarah, crush ko kasi siya eh,” he said. “Pero leverage ko po talaga si Sir Bamboo po, so I’ll proceed with Bamboo.”
